The power of a kind word is something I don’t think we talk about nearly enough — and sweet friend, it has been on my heart so much lately that I just had to sit down and share it with you today. Because the power of a kind word to change someone’s entire day is so much greater than we realize, and I believe God wants us to use that power far more than we do.

How small acts of kindness can change someone’s entire day.

Can I tell you about a moment I will never forget?

I was having one of those days. You know the kind. The kind where everything feels a little heavier than it should, where you’re going through the motions but your heart isn’t really in it, where you’re smiling on the outside and holding it together because that’s what you do — but on the inside you’re just so tired and so in need of something you couldn’t even name.

I was standing in line at the grocery store, minding my own business, when the woman behind me leaned forward and said — completely out of nowhere — “I just want you to know, you have the most beautiful smile.”

That was it. That was all she said. She didn’t know what kind of day I was having. She didn’t know I needed it. She just noticed something kind and she said it out loud.

And sweet friend, I cried the whole way home. Not because it was dramatic or life-changing in some grand sense. But because in that one moment, one simple sentence from a stranger reminded me that I was seen. That I was noticed. That I mattered to someone, even someone who didn’t know my name. 💜

That is the power of a kind word.

The Power Of A Kind Word Is Greater Than You Know

We walk past dozens of people every single day who are carrying things we know absolutely nothing about. The woman in the drive-through who seems distracted — she got terrible news this morning. The coworker who has been a little quieter than usual — she is struggling with something she hasn’t told anyone yet. The friend who keeps posting cheerful things on social media — she hasn’t heard an encouraging word from anyone in weeks and is starting to wonder if anyone really sees her at all.

We don’t know. We never really know what someone else is carrying behind their smile.

But here is what we do know — a kind word has the power to lighten a load we didn’t even know someone was carrying. It has the power to reach into someone’s hard day and pull out just enough hope to help them keep going. It has the power to remind someone, in the most ordinary moment of the most ordinary day, that they are valued and they are not invisible.

“Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”Proverbs 16:24

Sweet to the soul. Healing to the bones. That is not small. That is not ordinary. That is the Word of God describing what happens when we choose kindness with our words. 🌿

And yet how often do we hold back? How often do we think something kind about someone and just… don’t say it? We notice someone’s hair looks beautiful and we think it but we don’t say it. We see someone working hard and we think “good for her” but we keep walking. We feel prompted to reach out to someone and check in and we tell ourselves we’ll do it later and then later never comes.

Sweet friend, say the thing. Send the text. Give the compliment. Make the call. 🙏🏼

Because the kind word you are holding back might be exactly what someone desperately needs to hear today.

How The Power Of A Kind Word Can Change Everything

I want to tell you about something that happened in a high school in New York that I have never been able to forget since I first heard it. A teacher asked her students to write down one kind thing about every single person in the class. She collected them and gave each student the list of kind things their classmates had written about them. Years later, one of those students was killed in a war. At his funeral, his mother shared that he had carried that piece of paper with him everywhere he went — folded up and worn from being read so many times. Other classmates at the funeral shared that they had done the same thing. Kept it. Treasured it. Read it on the hard days.

Those were just words written by teenagers on a piece of paper. But they became lifelines. They became proof, on the darkest days, that someone saw something good in them. 💜

That is the power of a kind word. It doesn’t just change someone’s day. Sometimes it carries them through the hardest seasons of their entire life.

And you have that power. Right now. Today. With the words in your mouth and the texts on your phone and the small everyday moments God places in your path.

Simple Ways To Spread Kindness Starting Today

You don’t need a special occasion or a perfectly crafted speech to spread kindness with your words today. Here are some of the simplest and most powerful things you can do right now.

Tell someone specifically what you appreciate about them. Not just “you’re great” but “I appreciate the way you always make everyone feel welcome” or “I love how you never give up even when things get hard.” Specific kindness lands deeper than general kindness every single time.

Reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Send a text that just says “I was thinking about you today and wanted you to know.” That is it. That is enough. You have no idea how much that might mean to the person on the receiving end.

Leave an encouraging comment. In a world full of scrolling and consuming, take thirty seconds to leave a genuinely kind comment on someone’s post. Tell them their work is beautiful. Tell them their words helped you. Tell them you see them. It costs you nothing and it might make their entire week. 🌿

Say thank you — really mean it. Not just as a reflex, but as a genuine acknowledgment of someone’s effort. Look them in the eye. Slow down for just a moment. Let them feel that you actually see what they did and you are genuinely grateful for it.

And pray before you speak. Ask God each morning to give you eyes to see the people around you who need a kind word — and then the courage to actually say it out loud when you feel that nudge. Because I truly believe that nudge is Him, directing your kindness exactly where He knows it needs to go. 💜

Kindness Starts With You Sweet Friend

Sweet friend, we are living in a world that is desperately hungry for kindness right now. For real, genuine, I-see-you-and-you-matter kindness. The kind that costs us nothing but means everything to the person on the receiving end.

You don’t need a platform or a pulpit or a perfect moment. You just need to open your mouth and let something kind come out. You just need to slow down for thirty seconds and really see the person standing in front of you.

The world changes one kind word at a time. And it starts with you, sweet friend. 🌸

Go find someone today. Say the kind thing. Send the text. Give the compliment. Make the call.

And then watch what God does with that small seed of kindness. Because kind words planted faithfully grow into something far more beautiful and far more powerful than we could ever imagine. 💜
