“God’s Promise of Peace in Surrender”
Finding peace in surrender to God is something I spent years not understanding — and sweet friend, if you’re exhausted from trying to hold absolutely everything together, I think this is exactly what you need to hear today.
Are you tired? Not just the kind of tired that a good night’s sleep can fix — but that deep, soul-level exhaustion that comes from gripping life so tightly your hands ache and your heart is worn out?
You’ve been planning, worrying, rearranging, and mentally rehearsing every possible outcome. You’ve been lying awake at night running through the what-ifs, trying to hold it all together.
I see you. And I want you to know something important:
You were never meant to carry all of this — and peace in surrender to God is closer than you think.
The Lie We Believe About Control
Somewhere along the way, most of us picked up a belief that goes something like this: if I can just control enough variables, everything will be okay. If I plan hard enough, worry enough, and stay vigilant enough — I can keep the bad things from happening.
Oh, sweet friend. That belief is exhausting. And it isn’t true.
Control is an illusion. We can make good plans and wise choices — and we absolutely should — but the outcome? That was never ours to manage. That belongs to God.
And here’s the beautiful, freeing truth that took me a long time to really sit with: when we stop trying to manage every outcome and start trusting the One who already holds every answer, something begins to shift. The tension starts to ease. The peace we have been searching for — the real, deep, soul-level peace — begins to find us.
What God Actually Promises You
I keep coming back to this passage when the anxiety creeps in:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:6–7
Did you catch that? The peace of God that transcends all understanding.
Not the peace that comes when everything is finally resolved. Not the peace that arrives after you’ve figured it all out. The peace that goes beyond anything our human minds can even comprehend — and it’s already available to you. Right now. In the middle of the mess and the uncertainty and the unanswered prayers.
And it isn’t a reward for getting everything right. It’s a gift. It arrives the moment you choose to open your hands and trust.
What Surrender Actually Looks Like
“This is what peace in surrender to God truly feels like — not the absence of hard things, but the presence of Him in the middle of them.”
I know what some of you might be thinking. Surrender sounds passive. Like giving up. Like just throwing your hands in the air and hoping for the best.
That’s not what I mean at all.
Surrendering to God isn’t passive — it’s one of the bravest, most active things you can do. It means showing up every single day and saying, “God, I trust You with this.” It means making your plans, taking your steps, doing the work — and then releasing the outcome to the One who sees the whole picture when you can only see the next few feet in front of you.
Surrender looks like praying instead of spiraling. It looks like choosing trust when fear is loud. It looks like going to bed at night and saying, “I did what I could today. The rest is Yours, Lord.”
And slowly — not overnight, not perfectly, but surely — you start to feel it. That lightness. That quiet. That peace that doesn’t make logical sense given your circumstances, but somehow is there anyway.
You Have Permission to Let Go
“Finding peace in surrender to God doesn’t happen all at once — it happens one small act of trust at a time.”
Sometimes we need someone to give us permission to stop white-knuckling our way through life. So consider this your permission slip, sweet friend:
You don’t have to figure it all out today.
You don’t have to have all the answers.
You don’t have to hold the whole world together by yourself.
You were designed to live with open hands, not clenched fists. And the God who created you, who knows the number of hairs on your head, who has plans for you that are good — He has got this. He has always had this. He has always had you.
Your only job today is to trust Him.
A Simple Prayer for When You Need to Let Go
“Peace in surrender to God is not a one-time decision — it’s a daily practice of choosing Him over our fear.”
If you’re not sure where to start, maybe try this prayer today:
“Lord, I’m tired of trying to control what was never mine to control. I give You my worries, my plans, my what-ifs, and my fears. I trust that You see what I cannot see and that Your plan is better than anything I could arrange on my own. Fill me with Your peace today — the kind that makes no logical sense but is unmistakably Yours. Amen.”
You are so loved, sweet friend. More than you know. And you are so not alone in this.
With so much love and faith,
Marilyn 💜
