Leave A Little Room For God To Surprise You
Sweet friend, today I want to encourage you to leave room for God to surprise you — because what He has planned for your life is more beautiful than anything you could dream up on your own.
Can we be real for a moment? You have probably spent more time than you care to admit trying to figure everything out. Planning every detail. Mapping every step. Telling God exactly how you need Him to answer your prayers, right down to the timeline and the specifics.
And there is nothing wrong with making plans. But what happens when you hold on so tightly that there is no room left for God to do what only He can do?
That is when you miss the surprise.
Why You Should Leave Room for God to Surprise You
Here is something your heart needs to hear today — God is not limited by your imagination. Not even close.
You may be praying for one specific thing, but God sees the whole picture. He sees the version of your life that you cannot even fathom yet. And His version? It is always better.

Read that again. Immeasurably more than all you ask or imagine.
That means every prayer you have whispered, every dream you have tucked away in your heart, every wish you have been too afraid to say out loud — God can do more than all of it combined. But you have to leave Him room to work.
Think about the best surprises in your life. That friendship that showed up when you were lonely. That opportunity that came out of nowhere. That moment of peace in the middle of chaos that made absolutely no sense but felt like a warm blanket around your shoulders.
You did not plan any of those. God did.
How to Leave Room for God to Surprise You Every Day
So how do you actually do this? How do you stop gripping so tightly and start leaving space for God to move?
It starts with surrender. And before you tense up at that word, sweet friend, surrender does not mean giving up. It means giving it over. There is a big difference.

Here are five beautiful ways to start leaving room for God to surprise you today:
First, stop trying to control the how. Pray for what is on your heart, but let God decide how He delivers it. His methods are creative beyond anything you could come up with.
Second, release the timeline. You want it now. God wants it right. Trust that His timing is perfect even when it feels painfully slow.
Third, pay attention to the unexpected. Sometimes God’s biggest surprises come disguised as interruptions, detours, or closed doors. That thing that felt like a setback? It might be the setup for something incredible.
Fourth, practice gratitude for what is already here. When you start thanking God for today’s blessings, you open your eyes to see how He has already been surprising you all along.
Fifth, say yes to the thing that scares you a little. Sometimes God’s surprises require you to step out in faith before you can see where the path leads. That nudge in your spirit? That is Him inviting you into something beautiful.
Leave Room for God to Surprise You — He Is Not Done Yet
Here is what I really need you to hear today. If you are in a season where nothing seems to be going the way you planned — if the doors keep closing, the prayers feel unanswered, and the waiting feels unbearable — please do not lose hope.
God is not ignoring you. He is working behind the scenes in ways you cannot see yet. And when the surprise finally comes, it is going to take your breath away.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) is not just a pretty verse for a wall hanging. So today, sweet friend, take a deep breath. Open your hands. Unclench those fists. Let go of the need to know every detail and every outcome.
Leave a little room for God to surprise you. Because He is not done writing your story. Not even close. And the next chapter? It might just be the most beautiful one yet.
