Sweet Friend, There Is Healing In Small Steps — And Every One Of Them Matters
There is healing in small steps, sweet friend — and I need you to hear that today because I have a feeling your heart has been waiting for someone to say it.
Can I sit with you for a moment? Because I think you might be in a season right now where healing feels impossibly slow. Where you look at how far you still have to go and it makes you want to give up. Where you compare your progress to someone else’s breakthrough and wonder what is wrong with you. Where you wake up some mornings and feel like you are right back at the beginning, even though you know you have been fighting so hard.
I see you, sweet friend. And I need you to know — nothing is wrong with you.
Healing is not a straight line. It never has been. It is messy and slow and sometimes it circles right back around to places you thought you had already moved past. And on the days when that happens — on the days when you feel like you have not come very far at all — I need you to remember something that changes everything.
God is not measuring your healing by speed. He is measuring it by faithfulness. And every small, brave, trembling step you take toward wholeness? He sees it. He honors it. And He is so incredibly proud of you for taking it.
There is healing in small steps. And yours matter more than you know.
There Is Healing In Small Steps Because God Works In The Quiet
Here is something most people will not tell you: the most powerful healing you will ever experience rarely happens on a stage. It happens in the quiet.
It happens at two in the morning when you whisper a prayer you barely have the words for. It happens on the drive home when a song comes on and the tears finally fall. It happens in that small, sacred moment when you choose to forgive someone — not because they deserve it, but because your heart cannot carry the weight of it anymore.
God does some of His most beautiful work in the places nobody else can see. He is not waiting for you to have a dramatic, made-for-television breakthrough before He starts putting you back together. He is already doing it. Right now. In the quiet moments you think nobody notices.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3 (NIV)
Did you catch that? He does not just heal the people who look like they have it all together. He heals the brokenhearted. The ones who are still in the middle of it. The ones who are not sure they will ever feel whole again. That is who He comes for, sweet friend. That is who He runs toward.
So if your healing feels quiet right now — if it feels invisible and slow and nothing like the breakthroughs you see other people posting about — please do not dismiss it. God is working in your quiet. And what He is building in you behind the scenes is going to take your breath away.
There Is Healing In Small Steps Because One Step Is All He Asks For
Sweet friend, can I take some pressure off your shoulders today?
God has never once asked you to heal all at once. Not once. He has never looked at you and said, “Why are you not past this yet?” He has never crossed His arms and tapped His foot and wondered what is taking you so long.
All He has ever asked is for one more step. Just one.
One more morning of choosing to get out of bed. One more prayer, even if it is only three words. One more decision to try again when everything inside of you wants to quit. One more deep breath. One more act of trust.
That is it. That is all He is asking for today.
And here is the part that makes me want to cry when I really think about it — He is not standing at some faraway finish line waiting for you to arrive. He is standing right beside you, matching your pace step for step, carrying the weight you cannot carry on your own.
You do not have to run. You do not have to sprint. You just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other — and He will handle the rest.
There Is Healing In Small Steps Because Progress You Cannot See Is Still Progress
Can I be honest with you for a second? One of the cruelest lies the enemy will ever whisper to you is this: “You have not changed. You are still the same. Nothing is different.”
That is a lie. And I need you to reject it with everything in you today.
You may not be able to see your progress, sweet friend. But that does not mean it is not there. Think about it this way — when a seed is planted in the ground, you cannot see anything happening on the surface for weeks. But underneath the dirt, something extraordinary is taking place. Roots are growing. Foundations are forming. Life is pushing its way through the darkness toward the light.
That is exactly what is happening in you right now.
The fact that you are still here — still praying, still believing, still showing up — is proof that healing is happening. The fact that something that used to devastate you now only stings for a moment? That is healing. The fact that you can talk about your story now without falling apart? That is healing. The fact that you chose to read these words today because your heart was searching for encouragement? Sweet friend, that is healing.
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9 (ESV)
Your season is coming. Do not let the enemy convince you that nothing is growing just because you cannot see the harvest yet.
There Is Healing In Small Steps Because God Wastes Nothing
Here is a truth that has carried me through some of my hardest seasons: God does not waste a single tear you have cried.
Not one sleepless night. Not one broken prayer. Not one moment of heartache that felt like it would swallow you whole. He catches every one. He holds every one. And He uses every one in ways you cannot even begin to imagine right now.
That pain you went through last year? He is going to use it to help someone else who is walking through the same thing. That season of waiting that nearly broke you? He was building patience and trust and depth in your spirit that you will need for what is coming next. That loss you thought would define you? He is rewriting it into the most beautiful redemption story you have ever seen.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” — Romans 8:28 (NIV)
All things. Not just the pretty things. Not just the easy things. All things. Every hard chapter, every painful detour, every small step that felt like it did not count — He is weaving every single one of them into something good. Something purposeful. Something that will make you fall to your knees in gratitude when you finally see the full picture.
Your pain is not pointless. Your healing is not wasted. And every small step you have taken has been leading you somewhere beautiful.
There Is Healing In Small Steps Because You Are Not Walking Alone
Sweet friend, I saved the most important one for last, because this is the truth I need you to carry with you when you close this page today.
You are not doing this alone.
I know it feels like it sometimes. I know there are days when the loneliness of healing hits you so hard it takes your breath away. I know what it is like to look around and feel like everyone else has moved on while you are still picking up pieces.
But you are not alone. You never have been. And you never will be.
God is right there with you — in the mess, in the grief, in the two-in-the-morning tears, in the small victories nobody else sees. He is holding space for your healing and He is not in a hurry. He is as close to you right now as He was on the day you were born, and He has no intention of leaving.
And sweet friend, you are surrounded by a community of women just like you who are walking their own healing journey one small step at a time. Women who understand. Women who are praying for you even though they have never met you. Women who would look you in the eye and say, “Keep going, sweet friend. I am right here with you.”
Because there is healing in small steps. There always has been. And every step you take — no matter how small, no matter how shaky, no matter how many times you have to take the same one over again — is bringing you closer to the wholeness God has already promised you.
So take a deep breath today. Give yourself the grace you so freely give to everyone else. And trust that the God who started this good work in you is going to finish it.
One small step at a time.
I would love to hear from you today, sweet friend — what is one small step toward healing that you are proud of, even if the rest of the world never saw it? Share it in the comments below and let us celebrate it together. 💜
