Feel Like a Kid Again: 5 Joyful Ways to Bring Playfulness Back
Do you ever wish you could feel like a kid again, just for an afternoon? 💛 Sweet friend, I have wonderful news: you can, and you don’t have to wait for a special occasion to do it. The little graphic I made for you today says it all: “I hope you still do things that make you feel like a kid.” It’s more than a cute saying. It’s a gentle permission slip from my heart to yours, and I’d love for us to sit down together and talk about it.
Sing the Wrong Words to Feel Like a Kid Again
Remember when you used to belt out a song at the top of your lungs without worrying who might hear? Children don’t check whether they have the lyrics right. They simply sing because their hearts are full. 🎶
Somewhere along the way, many of us stopped. We got careful, we got quiet, and we worried about getting it “right.” So today I hope you’ll turn up the radio, make up your own words, and sing anyway. If you’re in the car, even better. The wrong words are often the funniest, and laughing at yourself is one of the sweetest ways to feel like a kid again.
Dance in the Kitchen and Feel Like a Kid Again
You don’t need a dance floor, a partner, or even good rhythm. All you need is a kitchen floor and a little music. Dance while the coffee brews. Dance while the soup simmers. Twirl in your socks if you want to!
The Bible tells us there is “a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance” (Ecclesiastes 3:4). I believe today might be one of those dancing days. Even when life has been hard, a few minutes of movement and music can lift your spirit and remind your heart that joy is still available to you.
Make a Wish and Believe Again to Feel Like a Kid Again
When we were little, we blew out birthday candles, tossed pennies in fountains, and wished on the first star of the evening, and we truly believed those wishes mattered. Somewhere along the way, many of us decided that wishing was for children.
But I believe God delights in the hopes of your heart. So make a wish today! Say it out loud, or whisper it quietly to Him. Hope is one of the best ways to feel like a kid again, and hoping is never foolish. It’s an act of faith.
Laugh at Something Silly to Feel Like a Kid Again
Do you remember the kind of laughter that made your belly ache and your eyes water? That kind of laughter is a gift, and it’s good for you, too. Scripture says, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine” (Proverbs 17:22).
So watch the funny video. Call the friend who always makes you giggle. Look at old photographs and laugh at the hairstyles. Let yourself be silly. A clean, joyful laugh doesn’t make you any less wise or mature. It makes you more alive. 🌼
Remember That Growing Older Doesn’t Mean You Have to Grow Serious
This is my favorite part of the quote, sweet friend. Growing older is a blessing, and it is a privilege not everyone gets. But the number of birthdays you’ve celebrated has nothing to do with how much joy you’re allowed to have.
You can be wise and playful. You can be faithful and silly. You can carry years of experience in one hand and a handful of wildflowers in the other. God made you to enjoy this life, and when you do, you honor the gift. Every time you choose to feel like a kid again, you’re saying thank You to the One who gave you another day.
