THE COURAGE TO BEGIN AGAIN

Have you ever had one of those mornings where you woke up and the very first thing your mind did was remind you of every mistake you’ve ever made?

Maybe it was something recent. A decision you wish you could take back. A conversation that didn’t go the way you hoped. A dream you tried for and it just didn’t work out. Or maybe it’s something older than that — something you’ve been carrying around so long it has started to feel like it just belongs there, like it’s a part of you now.

Sweet friend, I want you to pull up a chair, pour yourself something warm, and sit with me for a few minutes today. Because this one is for you.

YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY YOUR WORST MOMENT

I think one of the enemy’s greatest tricks is convincing us that our mistakes are permanent. That failure has the final word. That the door has closed and it isn’t going to open again.

Have you ever believed that lie? I have. More times than I’d like to admit.

There have been seasons in my own life when I looked at where I was standing and thought, this is too far gone. Too messy. Too broken. Too much. I had made choices I regretted, walked roads I shouldn’t have, and let opportunities slip right through my fingers. And the voice in my head — that quiet, cruel little voice — would whisper, “You had your chance. It’s too late now.”

But here is what I’ve learned, sweet friend, and I want you to write this on your heart today.

That voice is not God’s voice.

God doesn’t speak to you in condemnation. He speaks to you in compassion. He doesn’t look at your mess and walk away. He looks at your mess and walks toward you.

HIS MERCIES ARE NEW EVERY MORNING

There is a passage in the book of Lamentations that has carried me through some of the hardest seasons of my life. It comes from a place of deep pain — the writer is sitting in the middle of devastation, loss, and heartbreak. And yet right there in the middle of all that darkness, he writes something so beautiful it takes my breath away every single time.

Lamentations 3:22-23 says, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Did you catch that?

His compassions never fail. Not sometimes. Not on the days you get it right. Never. They do not fail.

And they are new every morning.

Not every year. Not every season. Not when you finally feel like you’ve cleaned yourself up enough to deserve them. Every. Single. Morning.

That means when your eyes opened today, God’s mercy was already there waiting for you. Fresh and full and completely unconditional. It didn’t matter what yesterday looked like. It didn’t matter how long you’ve been struggling. The mercy was there. Brand new. Just for you.

I don’t know about you, but that just makes me want to cry the most grateful tears.

STARTING OVER IS NOT WEAKNESS

I think we have gotten something very wrong in the way we talk about starting over.

Somewhere along the way we decided that needing a fresh start means you failed. That trying again after something didn’t work out is embarrassing. That the people who get it right the first time are stronger, better, more worthy than the ones who have to find their footing a second or third or fourth time.

Sweet friend, that is simply not true.

Starting over isn’t weakness. It is one of the most courageous things a human being can do.

Do you know what it takes to pick yourself back up after a fall? To look at the broken pieces of something and decide you’re going to try again anyway? To trust God with a dream that didn’t work out the first time and say, okay Lord, I’m going to try this again with you leading the way?

That is faith. That is strength. That is courage in its purest and most beautiful form.

The people I admire most in this life are not the ones who never stumbled. They are the ones who stumbled, sat with it for a moment, and then got back up. They are the ones who let God meet them in the mess and walked forward anyway.

I want to be that kind of person. And sweet friend, I believe with everything in me that you can be too.

IT IS NEVER TOO LATE

Can I just say something that I think somebody reading this today really needs to hear?

It is not too late for you.

Not too late to try again. Not too late to forgive yourself. Not too late to start that thing you’ve been putting off because you’re afraid of failing again. Not too late to repair something that feels broken. Not too late to step into the life God has been holding open for you while you’ve been standing at the door wondering if you even deserve to walk through it.

You deserve to walk through it.

God is not standing on the other side of that door with a list of everything you’ve done wrong, shaking His head at you. He is standing there with arms wide open, saying, “Come on, sweet one. I’ve been waiting for you. Let’s begin again.”

Fresh starts are not just for people who have it all together. They are for the weary. The broken. The ones who have tried and stumbled and tried again. Fresh starts are for you.

ONE SMALL STEP FORWARD

I want to leave you with something practical today, because I know that sometimes inspiration is beautiful but what we really need is something we can actually do.

So here is what I want you to consider.

What is one small step you could take today toward your fresh start?

Maybe it’s writing a prayer and letting God know you’re ready to begin again. Maybe it’s making a phone call you’ve been putting off. Maybe it’s opening that journal and writing down the dream you gave up on. Maybe it is simply saying out loud, to yourself and to God, “I am not done yet.”

Whatever it is, sweet friend, take that step. It doesn’t have to be a giant leap. It just has to be one step in the direction of the new beginning God has already prepared for you.

Because here is the truth I want you to carry with you today and every day.

Failure is not final. Your mistakes do not define you. And every single morning that God gives you breath is another invitation — another open door — to begin again.

It is never too late. Not for you. Not today. Not ever. 💜
