Cherish the People You Love: Their Ordinary Presence Makes Life Extraordinary
Today I want to gently remind you to cherish the people you love, because the ordinary moments you share with them are the ones your heart will treasure most. 💜
Come sit with me for a few minutes, sweet friend. Pour yourself a warm cup of something comforting, and let’s talk about the people who make your life what it is.
Why It’s Easy to Forget to Cherish the People You Love
Life moves fast, doesn’t it? There are errands to run, appointments to keep, and a to-do list that never seems to get shorter. Somewhere in the middle of all that busyness, the people closest to us can start to feel like background music. We know they’re there, so we stop really noticing.
You don’t do this because you’re careless. You do it because the people who love you most are constant. They’re the steady, familiar presence you’ve come to count on, and we tend to take for granted what we believe will always be there.
But nothing in this life is promised, and that is exactly why today matters so much.
How Ordinary Moments Help You Cherish the People You Love
Think about the person who holds a special place in your heart. What do you picture first?
I’d be willing to bet it isn’t a grand vacation or a big milestone. It’s probably something small. The sound of their key in the door. The way they hum while they cook. The Sunday phone call that always runs ten minutes longer than planned. The “Did you get home safe?” text that arrives right on time.
These little things feel so ordinary while they’re happening, but they are the threads that weave a life together. When you look back, they are the moments you’ll long for the most. The ordinary was never ordinary at all. It was love, quietly showing up day after day.
So don’t wait until someone is gone to realize how much their ordinary presence made your life extraordinary.
5 Simple Ways to Cherish the People You Love Today
You don’t need a special occasion or the perfect words. Here are five gentle ways to begin right where you are:
- Send the text. Let them know they crossed your mind. “Thinking of you and grateful for you” is more powerful than you realize.
- Make the call. Hearing your voice can brighten someone’s whole day, and you might be surprised how much it brightens yours.
- Give the longer hug. Hold on just a few seconds more. Let them feel how glad you are that they’re here.
- Say the words out loud. “I’m so glad you’re in my life” is a gift that costs nothing and means everything.
- Put the phone down and really listen. Giving someone your full attention is one of the purest ways to say “you matter to me.”
Pick just one and do it today. Small acts of love have a way of rippling out much farther than we ever see.
When Your Heart Aches: Cherish the People You Love in Memory
Now, I want to speak softly to the tender heart reading this who is thinking, “I wish I could still call them.”
If someone you love is already in Heaven, please hear me: you are not alone. Your love for them didn’t end, and the ordinary memories you carry are still blessings. The way they laughed, the things they said, the way they made you feel are treasures no one can take from you.
On the hard days, let those memories wrap around you like a favorite blanket. Talk to God about them. He understands, and He is holding you close. 🙏
The Bible gives us such a beautiful way to honor those we love: “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.” (Philippians 1:3) Every remembrance can become a prayer of thanksgiving.
A Prayer to Cherish the People You Love
Lord, thank You for the people You have placed in my life. Open my eyes to see the beauty in the ordinary moments, and soften my heart to love them well while I have them near. Help me slow down, speak kindly, and say what needs to be said. And for those I miss, wrap me in Your comfort and remind me that love never truly ends. Amen. 💜
Treasure the Gift of Today
The Bible reminds us, “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12) Numbering our days isn’t about fear. It’s about noticing. It’s about waking up and realizing that this very day, with these very people, is a gift.
Life is such a precious gift, and so are the people who fill it with love and laughter. Let’s be the kind of women and men who notice the blessings while they’re still sitting across the table from us. ✨
Now I’d love to hear from you. Who is someone whose ordinary presence makes your life extraordinary? Share their name or a favorite little memory in the comments below. Let’s celebrate them together! 👇
With love and faith,
Marilyn 💜
