5 Heartfelt Ways to Slow Down and Enjoy Your Life Today
Sweet friend, if you long to slow down and enjoy your life but feel like there’s never enough time, this post is for you. 💜
Have you ever reached the end of a day so tired you could hardly think, yet you couldn’t say what you had actually done with it? The dishes, the errands, the phone calls, the endless list. You kept moving from morning until night, and somewhere in the middle, the day slipped right through your fingers.
Here is a thought I hope will settle gently on your heart today:
Maybe you’re not tired of your life. Maybe you’re tired of rushing through it.
Why It Feels So Hard to Slow Down and Enjoy Your Life
Most of us weren’t taught to rest. We were taught to be useful, to be dependable, to be the one who gets everything done for everyone else. And you have done that so faithfully.
But being busy has a way of sneaking in and becoming who we are. The coffee gets gulped down standing at the counter. The conversation gets half heard because your mind is already on the next thing. The sunset gets missed because there was one more email to answer.
It isn’t that you don’t love your life. It’s that you’ve been moving so fast you haven’t had the chance to feel it. And that kind of tired doesn’t go away with a nap. It goes away when you finally give yourself permission to be present.
God Wants You to Slow Down and Enjoy Your Life
I want you to hear this clearly: God is not rushing you. He never has.
Scripture says, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). He isn’t asking you to do more, be more, or prove more. He is inviting you to pause, breathe, and remember that He is right here with you.
And in Matthew, Jesus speaks so tenderly to weary hearts: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
Rest isn’t laziness, sweet friend. Rest is trust. It’s saying, “Lord, I believe You’re holding this day, so I can stop clutching it so tightly.” 🕊️
5 Heartfelt Ways to Slow Down and Enjoy Your Life Today
You don’t need a vacation or a free weekend. You can begin right where you are, with the very next moment.
1. Start Your Morning Without a Rush
Before you reach for your phone, take three slow breaths. Whisper a quiet “thank You, Lord” for this brand-new day. Let your feet find the floor before your mind finds the list.
2. Savor One Ordinary Thing
Pick one everyday moment and give it your whole attention. Maybe it’s the warmth of your coffee cup, the sound of rain on the window, or the way your dog greets you at the door. The ordinary moments are often the sacred ones. ✨
3. Really Listen to Someone You Love
Put the phone down and let them finish their story. Look them in the eye. Nothing makes a person feel more loved than being truly heard, and you’ll feel it, too.
4. Let Something Go Undone
This one might make you gasp, but it’s a blessing. Choose one thing on today’s list that can wait until tomorrow. The world will keep turning, and you’ll have room to breathe. 🌿
5. Laugh Out Loud
Life is meant to be enjoyed! Watch something silly, tell a funny story, or laugh at yourself for burning the toast. A good, clean laugh is a gift straight from heaven.
Give Yourself Permission to Slow Down and Enjoy Your Life
If no one has told you lately, let me be the one to say it: you are not behind. You are not failing. You are not too late. You are exactly where you are meant to be, and you are deeply, wonderfully loved.
Your life was never meant to be a race to the finish. It was meant to be opened slowly, like a gift, one moment at a time. 🦋
So take a deep breath with me right now. Let your shoulders drop. Look around and find one beautiful thing. That’s it. That’s the beginning.
You are not alone in feeling tired, and you are not alone on this journey. God is with you, and so am I.
What is one small moment you’re going to slow down and savor today? I would love to hear it in the comments below. 👇💜
With love and faith,
Marilyn 💜
