You Are Allowed To Change Your Mind — Giving Yourself Permission To Grow
Sweet friend, if you’ve been carrying something that doesn’t fit your life anymore and you’ve been too afraid to set it down — this one is for you. Giving yourself permission to grow is one of the bravest, most faith-filled things you will ever do.
Maybe it’s a dream you’ve been chasing for years that no longer lights you up the way it used to. Maybe it’s a habit you’ve outgrown. A friendship that quietly faded. A plan you made a decade ago when you were a completely different person living a completely different life.
Maybe it’s even the version of yourself you always thought you were supposed to become.
And somewhere deep inside, you already know the truth — but saying it out loud feels terrifying.
So let me say it for you today:
You are allowed to change your mind.
Why Giving Yourself Permission To Grow Feels So Hard
Here’s why this is so difficult, sweet friend. Somewhere along the way, you were taught that changing your mind means you’re flaky. Unreliable. Weak. A quitter. You were told that good people stick it out no matter what. That commitment means staying even when something is slowly draining the life right out of you.
But that’s not commitment. That’s captivity.
And God never called you to stay stuck in a place that He’s already moved you out of in your heart.
The truth is, giving yourself permission to grow means admitting that who you are today is different from who you were when you made that decision. And that’s not something to be ashamed of — that’s something to celebrate.
You’re not the same woman you were five years ago. You’re not even the same woman you were last year. Life has shaped you. Faith has refined you. Pain has deepened you. And the things that once fit perfectly may simply not belong in this chapter anymore.
Sometimes God Changes Your Heart Because He’s Changing Your Direction
Have you ever felt that quiet stirring inside — that gentle tug that something just isn’t right anymore? Not dramatically wrong. Not falling apart. Just… not right.
That’s not restlessness, sweet friend. That’s God redirecting you.
Sometimes He changes your heart before He changes your circumstances because He needs you to be willing to move before He opens the next door. He’s not punishing you for wanting something different. He’s preparing you for something better.
📖 “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” — Proverbs 16:9 (ESV)
You can make all the plans you want — and there’s nothing wrong with planning. But when God whispers, “Not that way anymore… come this way,” the bravest thing you can do is trust Him enough to follow.
Even when it doesn’t make sense.
Even when people don’t understand.
Even when it means walking away from something you poured your heart into.
Changing Your Mind Doesn’t Mean You Failed — It Means Giving Yourself Permission To Grow
Let’s get something straight right now. Changing your mind is not the same thing as giving up.
Giving up says, “I can’t do this.”
Changing your mind says, “I can — but it’s no longer where I’m meant to be.”
There is a world of difference between those two things.
Every experience, every season, every decision — even the ones you’re walking away from — brought you exactly where you are right now. Nothing was wasted. God used every single bit of it to shape you into the woman sitting here today, reading these words, ready for something new.
Giving yourself permission to grow means honoring the journey without being chained to it.
The Bravest Sentence You’ll Ever Say
Do you know what takes more courage than pushing through something that isn’t working?
Saying six simple words:
“This isn’t right for me anymore.”
Not out of bitterness. Not out of weakness. Not because you couldn’t handle it. But because you love yourself enough — and trust God enough — to be honest about where you are.
You don’t owe your past self the rest of your life. You owe the woman you’re becoming a real chance to live freely, fully, and faithfully.
So today, give yourself that grace. Stop punishing yourself for outgrowing things that once made sense. Stop apologizing for becoming someone new.
Give Yourself Permission To Grow Beyond Who You Used To Be
Sweet friend, here’s what I want you to carry with you today:
✨ “Sometimes changing direction isn’t giving up. It’s finally paying attention to where God is leading you.”
God is not disappointed that you changed your mind. He’s not frustrated that the plan shifted. He’s the One who shifted it. And He’s standing at the next open door with His arms wide, saying, “Finally. I’ve been waiting for you to come this way.”
So whatever it is — the dream, the plan, the habit, the relationship, the old version of yourself — if it no longer fits, you have permission to set it down.
Not because you failed.
Because you grew. 💜
Now I’d love to hear from you — has there been something in your life you’ve needed to let go of but kept holding on because you thought you were supposed to? Share it in the comments, sweet friend. You are so not alone in this. 💬👇
