If You’re Missing Someone Today — Love Never Leaves the Places It Touched
If you’re missing someone you love today, sweet friend, I want you to know — this one was written with you in mind. Not a crowd. Not an audience. Just you, sitting right where you are, carrying someone in your heart who isn’t here anymore but has never really left.
Missing Someone You Love Hits When You Least Expect It
You know how it happens, don’t you?
You’re going about your day — doing dishes, driving to the store, folding laundry — and you’re perfectly fine. Then out of nowhere, a song comes on. A familiar scent drifts past you. You find an old photograph tucked inside a drawer you haven’t opened in months. Or you remember something funny they used to say — that little phrase, that laugh, that look on their face — and suddenly they’re right there. Right there in your heart as real and as close as they ever were.
And the world keeps spinning around you, but yours just stopped for a second.
If that happened to you today, I need you to hear something important.
When You’re Missing Someone You Love, Don’t Rush Past the Feeling
Please don’t push it down. Don’t tell yourself to get over it. Don’t apologize for tearing up in the middle of a grocery store or getting quiet at the dinner table.
Say their name out loud.
Tell someone their story — even if you’ve told it a hundred times before. Especially if you’ve told it a hundred times before.
Laugh if the memory is funny. And oh, I hope some of them are funny — because those are the ones that feel like little gifts, aren’t they? Like they’re reaching through time just to make you smile one more time.
And cry if you need to. Let the tears come. They’re not a sign of weakness, sweet friend. They’re proof that what you shared was real and beautiful and worth every single moment.
Some People Leave an Empty Chair Nobody Else Can Fill
Here’s something I think we all understand but rarely say out loud — some people leave an empty chair that nobody else can fill.
Not because other people aren’t wonderful. Not because new relationships aren’t meaningful. But because that person held a place in your life that was shaped exactly like them — their voice, their humor, their way of making you feel safe, their way of knowing what you needed before you even said it.
And when they’re gone, that space stays. It doesn’t shrink. It doesn’t close up. It just sits there, quietly, reminding you of everything they were.
And that’s okay. That chair doesn’t have to be filled. It just has to be honored.
Missing Someone You Love Is Proof That Love Was Real
Here’s the beautiful truth I keep coming back to — love doesn’t disappear just because someone isn’t sitting beside us anymore.
It stays. It lives on in ways you might not even realize.
It’s in the recipe you still make because it was their favorite. It’s in the saying you caught yourself repeating to your own kids. It’s in the way you handle hard days a little differently because of what they taught you. It’s in the strength you didn’t know you had until you had to find it.
I like to think the people who changed our lives leave little fingerprints on our hearts — and we carry those with us wherever we go. Every laugh, every tear, every quiet moment when you whisper their name — that’s love still doing what love does.
It doesn’t stop. It just changes shape.
God Is Close When You’re Missing Someone You Love
And sweet friend, if your heart is heavy today, I want to leave you with something that has carried me through more hard days than I can count:
✝️ “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 (NIV){rel=”dofollow”}
Read that one more time. Let it really sink in.
He’s not far off. He’s not watching from a distance. He is close. Right there beside you. Right there in the middle of the missing. Right there in the tears and the memories and the ache that comes with loving someone so deeply.
You are not carrying this alone. You never were.
Missing Someone Is Love Reminding You It Was Real
“Some people leave this world but never really leave the places they touched inside us.”
So today, if someone crosses your mind and your eyes fill up — let them. If a memory catches you off guard and steals your breath for a second — let it. If you need to sit with the missing for a little while — sit with it.
Because missing someone you love is simply another way love reminds you it was real. And what a gift it is — to have loved someone so much that their absence still echoes through your days.
That’s not pain, sweet friend. That’s a love story that never really ended.
Carry them with you. Carry them proudly. And know that every fingerprint they left on your heart is yours to keep — forever. 💜
