Be Kind To The Person You’re Becoming — You’re a Work in Progress, Not a Finished Project

Be kind to the person you are becoming, sweet friend, because she deserves the same love and patience you give so freely to everyone else. Can we sit down together for a minute today — just you and me — and have a real heart-to-heart? Because there is something I think you really need to hear, and I don’t want you to rush past it. I want you to let these words sink all the way in.

You have been so hard on yourself.

I see it because I’ve lived it. That voice in your head that whispers you should be further along by now. That heaviness you carry when you compare your real, messy, beautiful life to someone else’s highlight reel. That quiet guilt that creeps in when you feel like you’re not doing enough, not growing fast enough, not measuring up to some invisible standard that nobody actually set for you.

And somewhere in the middle of all that striving and comparing, you forgot something important. You forgot to be gentle with your own heart. You forgot that growing takes time. You forgot that the woman you are right now — in this very season, on this very day — is worthy of kindness too.

So today, I want to give you five reasons to be kind to the person you are becoming. Not the person you used to be. Not the person you think you should be. The person you are right now, in this sacred, messy, beautiful in-between.

Reason One — Be Kind to the Person You Are Becoming Because God Is Not Done With You Yet

Sweet friend, here is the most beautiful truth you could hold onto today. God is still working on you. He has not walked away. He has not given up. He has not looked at your mess and decided you were too much trouble.

He is right there, right now, carefully and lovingly shaping you into the woman He created you to be.

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” — <a href=”https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+1%3A6&version=NIV” target=”_blank” rel=”dofollow”>Philippians 1:6 NIV</a>

Read that again. He who BEGAN the work will CARRY IT ON. That means the growing, the stretching, the stumbling, the getting-back-up — it is all part of His plan. You are not falling behind. You are being refined. And refinement takes time.

So be kind to the person you are becoming, because she is a masterpiece still being painted by the hand of God. And masterpieces are never rushed.

Reason Two — Be Kind to the Person You Are Becoming by Releasing the Weight of Comparison

Can I be honest with you? Comparison is one of the heaviest things you will ever carry, and it was never yours to pick up in the first place.

When you scroll through social media and see someone who seems to have it all together, you are seeing a snapshot — not the full story. You are seeing their highlight reel and comparing it to your behind-the-scenes. And that will steal your joy every single time if you let it.

Your journey is yours. Your timing is yours. The path God has laid out for your life does not look like anyone else’s because it was never supposed to. He created you with a unique purpose, a unique set of gifts, and a unique story that only you can live.

So stop measuring your chapter three against someone else’s chapter twenty. Stop looking at where they are and feeling like you should already be there. The only person you need to be better than is the person you were yesterday. And even on the days when you feel like you have taken a step backward, be kind to yourself. Because sometimes what looks like a step backward is actually God repositioning you for something greater.

Reason Three — Be Kind to the Person You Are Becoming by Speaking Life Over Your Own Heart

Sweet friend, let me ask you something. Would you ever speak to your best friend the way you speak to yourself?

Would you look at someone you love and say, “You’re not enough. You should have figured this out by now. What is wrong with you?” Of course you wouldn’t. You would wrap your arms around her and tell her she is doing an amazing job. You would remind her that she is loved and that everything is going to be okay.

So why don’t you give yourself that same grace?

The words you speak over your own life matter. They matter so much. And when you are constantly tearing yourself down, criticizing every move you make, replaying every mistake on a loop — you are planting seeds of doubt in a heart that was made to bloom with faith.

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” — <a href=”https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+18%3A21&version=NIV” target=”_blank” rel=”dofollow”>Proverbs 18:21 NIV</a>

Start speaking life over yourself today. Tell yourself you are brave. Tell yourself you are growing. Tell yourself you are doing the best you can with what you have, and that is more than enough. Be kind to the person you are becoming by giving her words that build her up instead of words that tear her down.

Reason Four — Be Kind to the Person You Are Becoming by Celebrating How Far You Have Already Come

You are so focused on where you are going that you have completely forgotten to look back and see how far you have already traveled.

Think about it, sweet friend. Think about what you have walked through. Think about the hard days that felt like they would never end. Think about the prayers you prayed through tears, the fears you faced when you didn’t think you were strong enough, the moments when everything inside you wanted to quit but you kept going anyway.

You survived all of that. Every single bit of it. And you are still here, still breathing, still fighting, still believing.

That is not nothing. That is everything.

So before you make another list of all the things you haven’t accomplished yet, take a moment to celebrate the mountains you have already climbed. Celebrate the strength you didn’t know you had. Celebrate the faith that carried you when your own two legs couldn’t.

Be kind to the person you are becoming by honoring the person you already are. She has fought hard to get here. She deserves to be celebrated.

Reason Five — Be Kind to the Person You Are Becoming by Trusting the Timing of Your Story

This one might be the hardest, sweet friend, but it is also the most important.

Trusting God’s timing — especially when it feels like nothing is happening — takes a kind of faith that goes deeper than words. It takes a willingness to believe that even in the waiting, even in the silence, even in the seasons that feel like you are standing completely still, God is moving behind the scenes in ways you cannot see.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — <a href=”https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jeremiah+29%3A11&version=NIV” target=”_blank” rel=”dofollow”>Jeremiah 29:11 NIV</a>

He knows the plans. He sees the bigger picture. And His timing — even when it doesn’t match yours — is always, always perfect.

So be kind to the person you are becoming by trusting that you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Not ahead. Not behind. Right here, right now, growing in exactly the way God intended.

You are not behind, sweet friend. You are not broken. You are not too much or not enough. You are becoming. And becoming is one of the most beautiful, sacred, courageous things a heart can do.

So today, I am asking you to do one simple thing. Be kind to her — that woman in the mirror who is trying so hard. Give her grace. Give her patience. Give her the same love you would give your dearest friend.

Because she is worth it. And God is not finished with her yet.

I would love to hear from you today. What is one thing you are learning to give yourself grace for in this season? Share it in the comments — your words might be exactly what someone else needs to hear. 💜
