You Are Not Falling Behind — You Are Becoming Exactly Who God Created You To Be
You are not falling behind, sweet friend — even though everything in this world is trying to convince you that you are.
Can I sit with you for a minute? Not in a rush. Not with a to-do list in my hand. Just right here, wherever you are, with my coffee and my whole heart. Because I have a feeling you need someone to look you in the eyes today and tell you something that no one else is saying.
You are not behind. You are becoming.
I know what it feels like to scroll through your phone and see everyone else hitting milestones, celebrating victories, and living lives that look like they came straight out of a movie. And meanwhile you are sitting there in the same season you were in last month, wondering why your life does not look like that. Wondering what you are doing wrong. Wondering why everyone else seems to have figured out the thing you are still praying about.
And that lie starts to settle in — the one that whispers, “You should be further along by now.”
But sweet friend, that is not the truth. That has never been the truth. And today, I want to remind you of what is.
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6, NIV — https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+1%3A6&version=NIV)
Did you catch that? He began a good work in you. Not a rushed work. Not a halfway work. A good work. And He is still working. Right now, in this very moment, in this very season that feels like nothing is happening — He is moving. He is shaping. He is preparing you for something that your eyes have not even seen yet.
So no, sweet friend. You are not falling behind. You are being built from the inside out.
Reason One: Gods Timeline Has Never Looked Like The Worlds Timeline
Let me tell you something that changed everything for me, sweet friend. The world runs on deadlines. God runs on purpose.
The world says you should have your life figured out by a certain age. You should be married by now, successful by now, thriving by now. And if you are not? Well, something must be wrong with you.
But nothing is wrong with you. You are simply on a different schedule — a holy one. A divine one. One that was written before you ever took your first breath.
Think about the people in the Bible whose stories did not make sense by the world’s standards. Abraham waited decades for the son God promised him. Moses spent forty years in the desert before God called him to lead. David was anointed as king years before he ever sat on the throne. Were they behind? Were they falling behind? Not even close. They were being prepared.
And so are you.
Your life is not on delay. It is on purpose. Every single season — even this one — is part of a plan so much bigger than what you can see from where you are standing right now.
Reason Two: Comparison Is The Thief That Steals Your Peace
Here is the thing about comparison, sweet friend — it never tells you the whole story. It shows you the highlight reel and hides the tears behind it. It shows you the finished product and hides the years of struggle that built it. It shows you someone else’s chapter twenty and makes you feel ashamed of your chapter three.
But your chapter three is sacred. Your chapter three is necessary. Your chapter three is where God is doing His deepest, most transforming work in your life — and you would miss every bit of it if you spent the whole time staring at someone else’s story.
You were never meant to walk someone else’s path. You were never meant to hit someone else’s milestones on someone else’s timeline. You were created for your own beautiful, messy, grace-filled journey — and it looks exactly the way it is supposed to look right now.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10, NIV — https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+2%3A10&version=NIV)
You are His handiwork. Not a copy of someone else. Not a lesser version of someone you admire. His original, intentional, on-purpose masterpiece. And masterpieces are never rushed.
Reason Three: Slow Growth Is Still Growth And God Sees Every Step
I want you to think about something for a moment. When a farmer plants a seed, he does not dig it up the next day and say, “Why is nothing happening?” He trusts the process. He waters the soil. He waits through the seasons. And one day, without announcement, something breaks through the surface.
That is exactly what is happening inside of you right now.
You may not be able to see it. You may not feel it. But every prayer you have prayed, every hard day you have survived, every moment you chose to keep going when everything inside of you wanted to quit — that was growth. Real, deep, soul-level growth.
The world only celebrates what is loud and visible. But God celebrates what is quiet and faithful. He sees the woman who gets up every morning and chooses to trust Him even when nothing makes sense. He sees the woman who whispers, “I do not know how, but I know You do.” He sees the woman who is showing up for her life even when her life does not look the way she thought it would.
That woman is not falling behind. That woman is growing in ways that no one else can even measure.
Reason Four: Your Becoming Season Is Preparing You For Your Breakthrough
Sweet friend, what if the season you are in right now — the one that feels too slow, too quiet, too uncertain — is actually the most important season of your entire life?
What if God is using this very moment to strengthen your roots so deep that when the storm comes, you will not be shaken? What if He is using this waiting to teach you a trust so unshakable that when the blessing arrives, you will be ready to carry it?
Because here is what I have learned — God does not waste a single season. Not one. The ones that feel pointless? They are building your patience. The ones that feel lonely? They are deepening your dependence on Him. The ones that feel like nothing is happening? Those are the ones where He is doing His greatest work behind the scenes.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31, NIV — https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+40%3A31&version=NIV)
You are not stuck. You are being renewed. And when the time is right — His time, not yours — you are going to look back on this season and realize it was the one that changed everything.
Reason Five: God Is Not Finished With You And That Is The Most Beautiful Part
This is the part I need you to hold onto with everything you have, sweet friend.
He is not finished with you.
Not today. Not tomorrow. Not even close.
I know there are days when you look at your life and feel like you have already missed your window. Like the best years have passed and the dreams have expired and maybe this is just all there is now. But that could not be further from the truth.
As long as you are breathing, God is working. As long as you are here, He has a purpose for you. As long as your heart is beating, He is writing your story — and the next chapter is going to take your breath away.
You are not falling behind. You are being positioned. You are being refined. You are being prepared. And one day — maybe one day soon — you are going to look back at this exact moment and whisper, “So that is what You were doing.”
Yes, sweet friend. That is exactly what He was doing. And it was worth the wait.
So today, I want you to do something for me. I want you to take a deep breath and release that pressure you have been carrying. The pressure to be further along. The pressure to have it figured out. The pressure to keep up with a pace that was never meant for you.
You are not behind. You are becoming. And becoming is one of the most beautiful things a heart can do.
I would love to hear from you today. Have you ever felt like you were falling behind, only to realize later that God had you exactly where He needed you? Tell me about it in the comments — your story might be the one that changes someone else’s whole day. 💜
